Will Gosnell Take The Stand During Penalty Phase?

PHILADELPHIA -

The trial for Philadelphia abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell now moves into the sentencing phase.

Beginning next Tuesday, jurors will decide if the 72-year-old should receive the death penalty or life in prison.

Gosnell was found guilty Monday of first-degree murder in the deaths of three babies. He was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of a patient in his West Philadelphia clinic.

Gosnell's attorney says he respects the verdict.

"That's a lot of testimony and a lot of evidence and this jury worked very, very, very hard, and they should be commended," defense attorney Jack McMahon said.

The jury found Gosnell not guilty of murder in a fourth baby's death.

Also at the trial, Gosnell's co-defendant, Eileen O'Neill, was found guilty of conspiracy and theft by deception for pretending to be a licensed physician.
