Yankee Stadium to host Rangers, Devils, Islanders

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Yankee Stadium will host two outdoor regular-season hockey games in January 2014, the National Hockey League announced.

The New York Rangers will play the New Jersey Devils, Sunday, January 26. Then the Rangers will take on the New York Islanders, Wednesday, January 29.

"The innovative nature of the Stadium Series affords the opportunity to have all three NHL teams in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area play, outdoors, at one of the most-celebrated stadiums in the world," Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "We'll be able to create a multi-faceted, multi-day experience for our fans, and we thank the teams, Coors Light, the New York Yankees and Yankee Stadium for their support of this memorable NHL event."

The new Yankee Stadium has hosted several non-baseball sporting events since it opened in 2009, including soccer, college football, and boxing.

"We have long thought that Yankee Stadium would be a great venue for outdoor hockey," said Lonn Trost, the COO of the Yankees. "Hosting two of the NHL's classic rivalries at Yankee Stadium will be a great kickoff for the worldwide sporting events in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area scheduled in early 2014."

These games are among several hockey games to be played at outdoor stadiums in 2014. Toronto Maple Leafs play the Detroit Red Wings at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on January 1, the Anaheim Ducks skate against the Los Angeles Kings at Dodger Stadium in L.A. on January 25, and the Chicago Blackhawks host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field in Chicago on March 1. A game between the Ottawa Senators and the Vancouver Canucks at BC Place in Vancouver is also in the works.

One of the most surprising findings in a report from the New York City public advocate is that city officials have virtually no authority over how nail salons are run. The city can't enforce standards like they do with restaurants, so it's clearly a case of beauty buyer beware. We get our nails done without thinking too much about it.

Taxis come in yellow, green, black, and now... hot pink? They're called SheTaxis and they are from a cab service for women by women. (The cabs aren't actually pink, but drivers will carry pink pashminas.)The service is coming to New York this week. You could almost think of it as an all-female Uber.
