Wayland man's trial in death of trooper delayed

Posted: Updated:

BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — The motor vehicle homicide trial of a Wayland man who crashed into the rear of a state trooper's cruiser in 2003 has been postponed.

William Senne pleaded guilty in 2005 to drunken driving in connection with the crash in Wareham when he was 18 that left Trooper Ellen Engelhardt with severe brain damage. He spent more than two years in jail.

When Engelhardt died in June 2011, Senne was charged with motor vehicle homicide.

The MetroWest Daily News (http://bit.ly/10SgRaJ ) reports his trial was scheduled to start this week in Brockton Superior Court but was postponed. The new date wasn't immediately available.

The 28-year-old Senne has pleaded not guilty to the new charge and is free on probation.

His lawyer has said it's unusual he's being charged twice for the same crash.
