2 children who were the subject of Amber Alert found safe in Conn.

BRAINTREE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) — A man accused of forcibly abducting his two children from a foster home in Massachusetts will not face extradition from Connecticut.

Jon Lockwood, 54, of Las Vegas, will be held by Connecticut authorities until a hearing on June 20.

Authorities said Lockwood forcibly took 8-year-old Patrick Nguyen and his 10-year-old daughter, Sarah, from a foster home in Braintree at about 4:30 p.m. Monday. An Amber alert was issued for the children Monday evening.

Authorities said the two were found unharmed at a 7-Eleven convenience store Monday night in South Windsor, Conn. after police received a call from a truck driver who spotted Lockwood's car.

Police said they found Lockwood and the children in the car. The children were hidden under blankets and pillows and were not harmed. Lockwood was taken into custody without incident.

Braintree police requested that Lockwood be held for felony charges in Massachusetts. He was taken to Connecticut State Police and held on Connecticut charges.  Troopers searched the suspect's vehicle and numerous items were found. Police said it appeared he planned a long road trip.

Lockwood was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor for leaving the children in the unlocked vehicle alone while he went into the 7-Eleven store. He was held on $250,000 bond following a hearing Tuesday.

The suspect's car was seized as evidence for the Braintree Police Department. The children were transferred to the Massachusetts State Police to be returned to their foster home in Braintree.

The children's mother may be out of the country. Police were not clear on that. Police did not say why the kids were in a foster home, but said the parents were involved in a recent custody battle and the father did not have any parental rights to the kids.
