Teen arrested after SWAT team called to Canton home

Posted: Updated:

Authorities arrested a teenager after a three-hour standoff at a home in Canton on Tuesday.

Police were called to the Hillcrest subdivision after receiving a call from a resident about a man in her yard.

Viktoriya Krasnyanskiy said her mother, Olga, saw a strange man outside the window of her home.

"She freaked out," said Krasnyanskiy.
Krasnyanskiy said that her mother called police after the man tapped on her window. Within minutes, the neighborhood was put on lockdown.

A SWAT team surrounded the home as authorities sent a robot to see if the man had gotten inside. Other officers searched the neighborhood as residents arriving home were kept out.

Steven Nash and his wife had to wait outside the subdivision more than an hour while their three daughters were home alone.

"They told us nothing. We just stood out there and watched as SWAT team rolled and the body armor guys were walking through," Nash said.

Three hours later, police said they found the suspect. They arrested 17-year-old Damiem Fowler. He was armed with a BB gun, according to police.

Fowler was charged with obstruction of justice and transported to the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
