FITCHBURG, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Investigators say a man who was pulled from the frigid Nashua River has died.
Fitchburg's fire chief says that Marie and Rene Boudreau were in a car which plunged into the Nashua River on Sunday. The car was in about three feet of water. Once the car was right-side up, rescuers were able to pry open the car doors and bring the couple out.
Both victims are in their 80s and they were submerged for a few minutes. Police and firefighters jumped into the river to reach the couple and worked fast to pull them out.
Rene passed away as a result of his injuries. Marie is staying at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster.
Marie's son previously told FOX 25 that his mother was in critical condition. Her condition was not updated Tuesday, but officials say they are monitoring her carefully over the next 36 hours.
