LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - A Danvers man has pleaded guilty to beating and stabbing his own father to death.
Stephen Anastasi pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lawrence Superior Court to second-degree murder in connection with the November 2011 death of 60-year-old John Anastasi.
The younger man was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 15 years.
Investigators say the younger man sneaked up behind his father as he was eating at the kitchen table, and struck him three times on the head with a hammer. He then left with a friend to find heroin. When he returned home hours later, he realized his father was still alive on the floor, so stabbed him twice in the back of the neck.
The Salem News reports that Stephen Anastasi apologized in court.
