Heat and humidity continue into the weekend, chance for pop-up storm increases

Posted: Updated:
FROM FOX 25 CHIEF METEOROLOGIST KEVIN LEMANOWICZ

Friday was the hottest day in Boston this year... and summer hasn't even started!

Temperatures topped out in the 90s, except 80s on Cape Cod and even cooler on Nantucket.

You can expect the same air mass and same weather situation Saturday. More heat and humidity means a small chance of a pop-up thunderstorm. That chance increases Sunday afternoon as a cold front nears New England. I still think chances are low from central Mass. eastward, with the Berkshires most likely to see storms.

Monday is a different story. That cold front will be coming through. Timing is in question, but if it comes through in the middle of the day, we could be in line for a severe weather outbreak.

Until then, air quality will be poor and the heat/humidity combination will make it dangerous to exert yourself. Take it easy in the heat wave and have a great weekend.

The front will bring more comfortable conditions behind it starting Tuesday.
