(MyFoxBoston.com/AP) - Massachusetts authorities are investigating the deaths of two children which occurred over the weekend.
Four-year-old Chauncey Cohen, of Brockton, was taken from the Holiday Inn Express located at 405 Westgate Dr. in Brockton to Good Samaritan Hospital by his mother, Tania Merisca at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at about 9:26 p.m.
Merisca told police Chauncey became unresponsive while she gave him a bath.
When the child died, hospital officials alerted police, who launched an investigation. Russ Eonas, a spokesman for the Plymouth District Attorney's Office only say that the child died "under suspicious circumstances."
The Essex District Attorney's Office says the "sudden unexplained" death of a 2-year-old girl in Haverhill is also under investigation.
According to authorities, the child's father put her down for a nap Sunday afternoon and found her unresponsive in her bed. The child was transported to Merrimack Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead at about 2:30 p.m.
No names were released in the Haverhill case.
Autopsies on both children are scheduled. Authorities did not indicate whether either child was injured.
There was no word on criminal charges in either case.
