DEP allows some Plum Island residents to rebuild homes

Posted: Updated:

NEWBURY, Mass. ( – The Department of Environmental Protection is stepping aside to let Plum Island residents rebuild homes which were destroyed by several winter storms.

According to The Eagle Tribune, several homeowners filed requests to rebuild their homes on the same land where their houses once stood. The town approved their requests, but the DEP held up construction until they had more information.

The Plum Island Foundation now says DEP officials have withdrawn that inquiry and are allowing three homes to be rebuilt.

At least one house is on Fordham Way and another is on Annapolis Way. Those streets were two of the most seriously damaged streets.
