Men rescue porpoise stranded on Duxbury mud flats

Posted: Updated:

DUXBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Four men rescued a young porpoise from mud flats in Duxbury Bay last week.

According to the Boston Globe, the men were working for Old Cove Oyster Co. when their boat became stuck in the mud Friday. As they continued to pull up cages they noticed a fin sticking out of the mud about 100 feet from the boat.

When they approached the fin, they noticed it was alive. Wondering how to proceed, the men called authorities, who told them they could move the porpoise to a nearby channel.

The men told the Globe that the mammal swam about 10 feet into the bay before coming back to sort of say, "thank you."
