Roxbury man identified as suspect killed during confrontation with police

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – The Boston Police Dept. has identified the man shot and killed during a confrontation with police on Willowwood Street early Sunday morning.

Ross Batista, 38, of Roxbury, was shot and killed in the area of 76 Willowwood Street in Dorchester at about 1:49 a.m. after he fired at officers, police said.

Police had originally responded to the area for a report of shots fired at 1:24 a.m.

Witnesses on scene told police Batista had a gun. When the officers approached Batista, he reportedly fired at the officers who returned fire. Batista was shot and transported to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation.
