BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — Police have arrested a man in connection with a violent home invasion in Brockton that left a 62-year-old woman in the hospital with a stab wound to her throat.

Police say 38-year-old Brian Vines was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with several offenses including armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and kidnapping.

Investigators said the woman was stabbed after Vines forced his way into her home and demanded jewelry.

Authorities received a 911 call from the victim about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police had to break down the door to get to the woman inside. She was expected to survive.

Police said the woman knew Vines.
