Former Mass. Medicaid official agrees to pay fine

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - The state Ethics Commission says a former top official in the Massachusetts Medicaid program has agreed to pay a $25,000 fine for violating conflict of interest law.

Philip Poley signed a disposition agreement with the commission acknowledging that he sought a job with a company that he also helped land a $420,000 consulting contract for a joint project between MassHealth and the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Poley, who was chief operating officer for MassHealth, left his state job in 2010 shortly before finalization of the contract with Accenture to accept a $185,000 a year job with the company.

The commission said in its filing that Poley also violated the conflict of interest law by working on matters related to the state project after going to work for Accenture.
