Students aid bus driver's daughter after bombing

Posted: Updated:

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - Weymouth students have raised more than $8,000 for a school bus driver's daughter who lost part of her left leg in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Bombing survivor Mery Daniel walked on crutches as she led about 380 students from William Seach Primary School as they started a mile walk in her honor Wednesday.

School officials said students raised the money to help the 31-year-old Daniel with her medical expenses. They said the event also was to show support for first responders and other victims of the April 15 attack.

Students waved U.S. flags and signs, some calling out "Mery Strong," as a greeting to Daniel as they walked loops around their school.

Daniel's father, Hary Volmar, says he never expected such support and it meant a lot to his family.
