Collapsed Philly Building's Owner Known As 'Porn King'

PHILADELPHIA -

The man who owns the building at 22nd and Market streets that collapsed Wednesday has quite a history. He's actually known as the "porn king."

His name is Richard Basciano. He bought the building back in 1994 for close to $386,000.

Its current market value is $2.6 million.

In addition to this building, he owns several adult theaters both on Market Street and in New York City.

He contracted a crew to demolish the 22nd and Market property.

FOX 29 spoke with the mother of the contractor working on that demolition.

"'Cause, naturally, being a mom, I tried to get -- to talk, and everything was so jammed up, and I had no idea. I'm still waiting," said Amala Chisom, the contractor's mother.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 29, that contractor, Griffin Campbell, has a criminal record that includes false reports, theft, fraud and criminal conspiracy.

The Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections says there were no current violations in the collapsed building.
