Gov. Patrick admits to getting drunk after Boston Marathon manhunt

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) – During a visit to a Cambridge marketing firm, Gov. Deval Patrick spoke candidly and somewhat controversially about what he did the day after the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect was captured in Watertown.

Gov. Patrick says he went out to a restaurant in West Stockbridge and "got quite drunk" alone in the corner, so much so he forgot his wallet.

Gov. Patrick also said he was glad Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was caught when he was because otherwise he says people would have been "bitching and moaning" about the order to stay indoors.

FOX 25's Sharman Sacchetti caught up with Gov. Patrick and asked him about some of his off the cuff remarks.

"Do you really think people would have been ‘bitching and moaning' for keeping them indoors for the shelter in place order?" Sacchetti asked.

"Yes," Gov. Patrick replied.

"Is that language, you think, it's not something we've ever heard from you before?" she asked.

"I had a conversation with a bunch of young people, and I had a ball," Gov. Patrick said.

"And so you were just trying to appeal to the young set, sort of?" Sacchetti asked.

"I had a great conversation with a great group of people who are doing really terrific things, and I enjoyed it. I think they did too," he responded.

When asked why he admitted to getting a little drunk and losing his wallet, Gov. Patrick responded, "Human beings sometimes do things like that."

While it's an odd choice of words coming from Gov. Patrick, many do not blame him.

The owner of the restaurant has not returned FOX 25's call, but told The Boston Herald that Gov. Patrick had one or two glasses of wine and eventually came back to pay his tab.
