Flood Warnings continued across parts of New Jersey on Saturday as rain swollen rivers reached flood stages.
The remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Andrea and another system to the west soaked the tristate New York area from Thursday night and through Friday, causing flooding and prompting several weather safety alerts.
Forecasters say the remains of the first tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season continues to move out of the area after bringing heavy rain of up to four inches by late Friday.
The rain is likely to produce small stream and urban flooding, so state and local authorities are urging residents to be prepared and to stay off roads, if possible.
We "encourage New Yorkers in affected areas to prepare for possible flood conditions," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "It is important for New Yorkers to stay updated by following the news and in the case of evacuations, to listen to local emergency officials and first responders for their safety."
New York City's Office of Emergency Management issued a Hazardous Travel Advisory through early Saturday morning and the city's flood plan was in effect.
"Flash flooding can occur with little or no warning due to the city's dense population and paved surfaces," OEM said in a press release. "These surfaces do not allow rainwater to be absorbed into the ground and can result in storm drains often being overwhelmed, causing localized flooding."
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots, city officials said. They advised that you not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway.
Hoboken and Jersey City are taking precautions after the cities experienced flooding during Superstorm Sandy.
Hoboken is offering discounted parking at two garages. Jersey City is setting up barricades along flood-prone streets.
Clouds and a shower may start Saturday but then we'll get in to a combination of sun and clouds.
