ATLANTA -

Are you ready for the Peachtree Road Race?  All News 106.7's Carolyn Ryan is getting there.  She's in week two of her training program, and this week, she's upping the ante.

Last week, Carolyn got new running shoes, a couple of new outfits to train in, and made a plan for training.  She started slow with a mile, and then gradually increased her distance each day.

Now, trainer Mary Elizabeth Hogenmuller of Forza Di Vita Studio in Buckhead says it's time to focus on logging miles.  By the end of the week, she says you should be able to comfortably run 2-3 miles as you work your way to the 10K.

Hogenmuller says instead of hitting the treadmill, you should skip the gym and take your runs outside to get a feel for the environment you'll be running in.  Because the race will be hot and humid, it's best for you to do your training outdoors.

Another training tip: See if you can have a conversation while you're running.  Even if you're just talking to yourself, you'll find it distracts you and it's also a good way to gauge your heart rate.

Hogenmuller says if you're not able to carry on an easy conversation while you run, you might be pushing yourself too hard.  Likewise, if it's too easy, you may need to push a little harder.

Hogenmuller recommends getting out for a run between four and five times during week two for the maximum benefit.
