Marshfield couple takes baby delivery into their own hands

Posted: Updated:

MARSHFIELD, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – All is quiet now, but last week one Marshfield couple experienced a welcomed, but unexpected surprise.

Baby Isaac was in no rush - in fact he was past his due date. And then, of all days, he chose last week's rain storm to make his debut.

Jenn and Dave Fielding were at their Marshfield home with their other children last Friday night when all of a sudden Jenn started to feel signs that their baby was coming. They got ready to go to the hospital, but Jenn had a sense she was not going to make it there.

Jenn made it inside the car, but that's when she decided she couldn't wait any longer and had to start pushing, right there in their garage.

Dave called 911 and told the dispatcher that his wife was going into labor and that they weren't going to make it to the hospital.

An ambulance was dispatched to the Fieldings' home, but because of the rain and flooding crews were having a rough time navigating the flooded streets.

When Dave realized that help was on the way but wasn't going to make it in time, he took matters into his own hands. He called 911 again and spoke with a dispatcher who helped him through the entire delivery process.

Luckily, the delivery was speedy.

"You don't know what you're capable of until you have a choice," Dave told FOX 25's Heather Hegedus.

EMT's arrived and helped Dave cut the cord.

The Fieldings are back home and enjoying the newest addition to their family.

Dave had the opportunity to meet and thank the dispatcher named Ron who coached him through the delivery. The Fieldings even gave baby Isaac the middle name Ron after a relative, but now the name carries even more significance.
