BOSTON (AP) - A super PAC is running new ads linking Democrat Ed Markey to the Internal Revenue Service, while accusing him of distorting facts in the special election to replace John Kerry.
The two ads represent the first major investment by an outside group helping Republican candidate Gabriel Gomez. It's part of a $700,000 investment by Americans for Progressive Action, which was created a week ago by anonymous donors.
One ad charges that Markey voted to cut Medicare and learned to distort facts during his 37-year congressional career. Another ad aired Thursday links Markey to the Internal Revenue Service, which will enforce the federal health care overhaul. The ads will air through Election Day, June 25.
Outside groups supporting Markey have poured money into the race, but Gomez's allies have been slow to get involved.
