Cherokee County hit hard by storm

Posted: Updated:
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -

Dozens of trees were brought down by strong teams in Cherokee County on Thursday.

The Canton Police Department said that trees fell on homes, brought down traffic lights and knocked out power to thousands of customers.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender reported that numerous trees fell on homes and roadways.

Rescuers had to free a 58-year-old after a massive tree crashed down on her SUV on Arthur Road in Holly Springs. She was bloodied, but OK, according to Cavender.

Residents were encouraged to stay home if possible due to the many calls about toppled trees.
