Father’s Day surprise at MIS for military father and son

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

Joel and Jarrett Correll, father and son, thought they were on a VIP tour of Michigan International Speedway's track, when their experience turned into something much bigger.

They were heading to a press conference held by Richard Petty Motorsports, but little did they know the announcement was really about them.

15-year old Jarrett, living with cystic fibrosis, was provided a week-long trip to Victory Junction, a camp founded by the petty family that provides medical needs to kids battling illness.

The father-son duo also became honorary pit crew members.

Joel, a United States Marine Corps veteran, tells Fox 2's Jennifer Hammond, "I just wanted us to come to the media center, and thought we were going to watch from the back, and all of a sudden we were up on stage. It's a little freaky."
