Deliberations to continue Tuesday in Detroit officer's manslaughter case

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

The jury in the manslaughter trial of Detroit officer Joseph Weekley did not reach a verdict on Monday.

The jury has now deliberated for two full days. Meanwhile, Aiyana's mother told us she is stressed and having panic attacks because the jury has not yet reached a verdict.

We were told the jury wanted to see more evidence and was using part of the courtroom.

Weekley is charged in the shooting death of seven-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones and took the stand in his own defense last week.

Weekley claims Aiyana's grandmother hit his weapon causing him to fire his gun during a raid on the home, something that she denies.

A bullet hit Aiyana in the head and killed her.

If found guilty, Weekley faces up to 15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter or two years for careless discharge of a firearm.

The jury is due back at 9:30 Tuesday morning to continue deliberations.
