ATLANTA -

Atlanta police say they have made one arrest and are searching for another man in the murder of a recent graduate from Morehouse College.

Joe Gibbs was shot and killed
inside a car in southwest Atlanta, not far from the Morehouse campus, last Thursday. Another person in the car was also shot, but survived. Police said a third man fled on foot from the car.

Authorities said the shooting wasn't random.

"It appears that the shooting was in relation to some type of drug transaction between the victims and the suspects," said Officer John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.

Police have arrested 20-year-old Nicholas Ross Smith in the case. He's being held in the Fulton County Jail.

Gibbs' uncle, Christopher McCoy, told FOX 5's George Franco in a phone interview that police hadn't told him the news of the arrest as of Thursday evening. McCoy said that the family doesn't know Smith and was off-guard by the police assertion that it was a drug-related murder.

"I don't know what..could possibly have happened… that somebody would…want to harm him," McCoy said.

Atlanta police say homicide investigators are searching for a second suspect in the murder.

"We are withholding releasing the information on that person, but we do have a warrant out for his arrest," Chafee said.

Gibbs' family is preparing for his burial in his hometown of Los Angeles on Saturday. His uncle said they plan to celebrate his life, not mourn his death.
