More than 150 pets available at PAWS Chicago Adopt-A-Thon

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A bunch of adorable pets are available for adoption at PAWS Chicago in Lincoln Park.

"We have more than 150 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and they're all looking for a loving home," PAWS spokesperson Sarah Ahlberg says. "So we're hoping that the community comes out and takes one home tonight."

You can take one home now. PAWS has been open since 11 o'clock Friday morning and they're still going for the next 36 hours.

Anthony Gore promised his daughter Aniyah they would adopt a kitten if she got good grades this year.

"She did," Gore says. "She actually got a scholarship award, so here you find me."

Aniyah told us she was looking for a white kitten.

"Because my mommy said, I can't get a black one," Aniyah says.

So, she found her favorite cat.

"It was black!" Aniyah exclaims.

Sorry, mom.

PAWS says this is a very important time of year to get people adopting pets.

"So many more liters are being born, so Animal Care and Control are just flooded with dogs and cats that need homes," Ahlberg explains. "So, we're going there every day taking as many as we can."

The PAWS Adopt-A-Thon is expected to go on for 36 hours, which will end Saturday night at 11 o'clock.
