3 men rescued from capsized boat in East River

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Three men were rescued after their boat capsized near the Manhattan Bridge early Saturday morning.

Police say the 25-foot Grady White boat tipped over around 8:00 a.m. after a line that had been stopped in the water got caught on a cleat. The force of the current was so strong on the line pulled down the boat, and it flipped over.

The three men were setting up buoys for the Liberty Challenge, a 15-mile canoe regatta.

An NYPD boat was patrolling the East River when they heard on the radio of a capsized boat and quickly saw two of the men hanging on the sinking vessel.

According to the NY Post, the three victims were then taken to Pier 17 and EMS took a 53-year-old man to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of a head injury. A 60-year-old was hospitalized for a leg injury. Both men were listed in stable condition.

One officer involved in the rescue was treated for a neck injury at Lutheran Medical Center.

Things are looking up for cute little Cami King. Not only is her cancer in remission, she also just got to meet Mickey, Minnie and Elmo in Times Square. But, if you can believe it, there's something else this 4-year-old is even more excited about: Times Square is going gold. The chairman of the Times Square Advertising Coalition announced the crossroads of the world is going to light up in gold to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
