Public safety secretary under fire for hours on the job

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Massachusetts' new Public Safety Secretary Andrea Cabral is under fire for her hours, or lack thereof, on the job.

According to a Boston Herald report, Cabral worked 292 hours during her first four months on the job. Other cabinet secretaries appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick worked more than 500 hours in the same time frame.

The newspaper says Cabral never scheduled more than 25 hours of work each week with days starting at 10 a.m. On May 13, she reportedly had just one hour scheduled.

Cabral came under fire in May for keeping a low profile in the days following the Boston Marathon bombings.

The Herald says the day after the attacks Cabral held a half hour meeting with House Speaker Robert DeLeo.

On Friday, only 90 minutes of her schedule was blocked off.

A spokesman told the newspaper that Cabral works 10-hour days adding the state is "getting their money's worth."
