ATLANTA -

The battle between Chick-fil-A and gay rights advocates is ramping up again.

The dispute began last summer when Dan Cathy, the president of the Atlanta-based fast food chain, said that he opposed gay marriage. The ensuing controversy led to "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," in which thousands of people packed the restaurants to show their support.

Things had been quiet for months, but the feud could reignite after a new tweet from Cathy.

After the Supreme Court's rulings on gay marriage were announced on Wednesday, Cathy apparently tweeted, ""Sad day for our nation; founding fathers would be ashamed of our gen. to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies."

The tweet was later deleted, but recovered using the web service Topsy.

Chick-fil-A issued a statement saying, "Yesterday, President and COO of Chick-fil-A Dan Cathy tweeted a personal comment upon hearing the Supreme Court decisions on DOMA and Prop 8. Dan recognizes his views do not necessarily represent the views of all Chick-fil-A customers, restaurant owners and employees, so he removed the tweet to eliminate any confusion.

At Chick-fil-A, we are focused on providing great-tasting food and genuine hospitality to everyone."

That statement wasn't enough to satisfy some gay marriage advocates, who took to Twitter to voice their displeasure.
