The Ostinato Treatment

Artists' songs get a free makeover

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Greg Laporta and Ernie Savage, a.k.a. The Ostinato Brothers, have been producing music together for over 20 years, mostly for TV and movies. More recently they've hungered for something more. They are offering free makeovers to songwriters' works. The catch is, you have to win the service.

"We are not producing the artist per say. We are looking at their song and trying to do what is best for it," Laporta says.

They call it the Ostinato Treatment. They invite artists from around the world to submit original songs through their website.

"The song has to have a discernible melody with lyrics and the other criterion is that it has to have at least one instrument accompanying it, like a guitar, keyboard," Laporta says.

At the end of every month, the artist with the most votes gets the treatment. Their song is remixed and produced by the pros for free.

"We are not making any money from this. it's really a love for the music," Laporta says. "It's giving something back."

"And when we are done with the master we mix it, record it, produce it, in the form of we arrange, perform, record, mix and master your song," Savage says.

Aileen Morgan was pleased with the treatment of her song "Standing Next to You."

"There's all kind of opportunities for musicians out there to submit their music and at this quality it's going to have more of an opportunity to be listened to in a serious way so I think it's a door opener honestly," she says.

Semaj Douglas and Jordan Lorrius are Love and Evolution. Their song "Danger" was among the first winners.

"I love the concept," Semaj says. "I think the song writers who don't have a lot of exposure to respected or known producers and the opportunity to get their stuff out there you know and what the ostinato brothers are doing is a big help in that direction."

Lorrius says: "it's going to be a complete masterpiece when Semaj, when she starts singing it too, because they gave us the opportunity to use her voice to have her sing on it and like I don't know where it's going to go at this point."

"That's the payment," Savage says.

"It's awesome," Laporta says. "You get some of these reactions and you are like you know it's really cool when you see their eyes light up."

Robert De Niro says Tribeca Film Festival is his passion

Robert De Niro is a family man, a filmmaker, an entrepreneur and one of my favorite actors of all time. He's also a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, which has more to see than ever before. De Niro wears just as many hats on screen as he does in real life. The father of six starred in six films last year, owns four restaurants and a hotel, and still finds time each spring for the Tribeca Film Festival, Lower Manhattan's annual cinematic showcase.
