Clouds and showers Sunday morning followed by sun midday

Posted: Updated:
From FOX 25 meteorologist Sarah Wroblewski

After some heavy rain and thunderstorms earlier Saturday morning… the majority of the region is enjoying some sunny breaks. This sunshine is boosting temps into the upper 70s and mid 80s. Clouds continue to stay thick across parts of the Cape and Islands with even a few showers. Temps are in the 60s and 70s here. No matter where you are… it is muggy out there! Dewpoints are in the 60s and even touching 70 on the Cape!

Through the afternoon, we'll continue to monitor for the threat of hit or miss showers. The best dynamics for scattered strong to severe storms will be across central and northern New England. The main threats would be heavy rain that may lead to flooding, frequent lightning, damaging winds and even an isolated tornado. Across southern New England, there may be an isolated storm that develops this afternoon that could produce flooding downpours, strong winds and frequent lightning.

The threat of a shower or two will continue overnight, especially for the southeast. Otherwise, expect mostly cloudy conditions and fog to develop. It will remain muggy and mild.

Sunday will be a repeat of Saturday. Clouds and showers in the morning will break for sun midday. Even the Cape may find some thinning in the cloud cover at times. Temps will climb into the low to mid 80s and it will stay humid. In the afternoon we'll have to look to the sky for the threat of pop-up showers and storms. Don't cancel your plans, but be aware of a safe place to go in case a storm develops near you. Remember… "When thunder roars, go indoors!" Have a great weekend!
