SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A state lawmaker is proposing to increase state police funding by $100,000 for more patrols in Springfield.
The proposal by state Sen. James T. Welch, a West Springfield Democrat, calls for the money to be allocated during the summer or when the state police commander believes it's necessary.
The Republican reports that Welch, whose district includes about half of Springfield, including parts of the downtown, says more police patrols will help people feel safer when visiting downtown.
