Trapped woman rescued from Winthrop home during fire

WINTHROP, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Firefighters rescued a woman trapped on the third floor of a Prospect Avenue home in Winthrop during a fire Sunday morning.

According to the Winthrop Fire Department, firefighters received the call at about 8:22 a.m. When they arrived at the home, heavy smoke could be seen coming from the structure.

A woman who had become trapped on the third floor, as well a person confined to a wheelchair, made it out of the home; however, the woman who was trapped suffered burns and smoke inhalation. She was transported to Mass. General Hospital.

The fire was brought under control at 9 a.m., and the scene was clear by 10:15 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
