The Talker: Is Chicago a snobby city?

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Do you think Chicago is snobby? Well, the city has made a list of America's "snobbiest cities," though, we're not number one.

In a survey, the readers of "Travel and Leisure" named San Francisco "America's snobbiest city."

The basis of all these rankings is not so much people's attitudes; rather, it's whether a city has high-brow artistic offerings and things like hip or fancy restaurants and shopping.

San Francisco is cited for its sticker-shock-inducing restaurants, its art galleries, and its hip boutiques. And, its residents are said to be really well-informed about things.

New York was named the second snobbiest. People noted its theater and art scenes, its exclusive nightclubs, and that so many people walk around in stiletto heels.

Boston is third. The survey noted it's steeped in history. It's also a college town with high-brow hangouts like Harvard square, and a bunch of "concept bookstores."

The twin cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul are the fourth snobbiest. Their residents are called bookish, Indie-music-loving, and craft-beer-drinking.

Seattle is tied for fifth. It's considered snobby because of its coffee connoisseurs and tech-savvy early adopters.

The co-number five is Santa Fe, New Mexico. The painter Georgia O'Keeffe lived her final years here and it's called an A-list art town. It's also known for its museums and boutiques and is said to have a crummy selection of sports bars.

And that brings us to allegedly snobby Chicago at number seven. "Travel and Leisure" readers cited our renowned theater scene. And with all our amazing buildings, we're noted for attracting architecture buffs.
