NYPD searching for man who rappelled down Brooklyn Bridge

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police are looking for at least one person who rappelled down the side of the Brooklyn Bridge Thursday morning.

The incident was caught on video and many people, who were starting their Independence Day overlooking the East River, encountered a view of the Brooklyn Bridge they've never seen before -- a man dangling off the side.

Authorities say the suspect carried no satchel of diamonds, hard drive of national secrets or warrant for his arrest.

No one chased him, he wore no harness and he apparently acted alone.

So, how this individual rappelled from the Brooklyn Bridge to the roof of a building below remains a mystery.

Witnesses say the daredevil first attempted to climb down a net, which proved to be too short and led him to scale back up.

He apparently used an air compressor hose to lower himself off the bridge.

Police say the man harbored no ill-intentions, only a penchant for seeking thrills.

Authorities are concerned how someone without clearance was able to creep around the restricted bowels of a national landmark and then the roof of a police building on the Fourth of July – and then escape raises some questions about bridge security.

Police continue to look for the phantom rappeller using helicopters Thursday morning and now any surveillance video that might have captured the daredevil's descent.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan gathered religious and city leaders with the focus of how to ease tensions between police and the community in advance of this Saturday's march to protest the death of Eric Garner. Some of the leaders in this group are rarely photographed together, let alone seated at the same table. But they were brought together over concerns about possible protest violence by the cardinal, one of the most powerful figures in the city and who commands respect across the board.
