SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Investigators shut down Red Line service to Davis Square for a period of time Saturday after a man was hit by a train.

Transit police were called to the scene at about 11:10 a.m. for a report of a person struck by a train. They say an unidentified white male in his late 30's was trespassing on the inbound track when he was hit.

According to the Somerville Patch, the man's body was recovered from beneath the train.

The man was transported to Somerville Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Shuttle buses replaced Red Line service between Harvard and Alewife Stations, but regular service resumed by 1:30 p.m. Riders taking Red Line trains to Ashmont and Braintree were asked to expect residual delays.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's office is assisting Transit police in investigating the death.
