DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) -

Heavy rain on Monday left behind a flood of problems for some drivers. A stretch of the Southfield Freeway was under water for the evening commute. Several cars were stranded in Dearborn.

The cars were stuck around the Village Road overpass just south of Michigan Avenue. The freeway was completely shut down for more than an hour creating headaches for people just trying to get home.

The scene wasn't much better in a Dearborn Heights neighborhood. Crews there worked to help clear drains so the water would have somewhere to go, but a lot of it had already made its way into basements.

"This is the first time since I've lived here in 43 years that we've ever got a drop of water in the basement from the rains," said Stanley Tabian. "Looks like a lot of stuff will have to be thrown away and start all over again. Hopefully it won't happen again for another 43 years."

MDOT said the flooding on the Southfield Freeway was caused by electrical issues at a nearby pumping station and those problems have since been corrected.
