VT face transplant recipient to hold book signing

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) — A Vermont woman who had a face transplant will be signing copies of her new book at a Boston hospital.

Carmen Blandin Tarleton revealed her new face in May, six years after her estranged husband unleashed a frenzied assault when he believed she was seeing another man.

He later pleaded guilty to maiming her and got a prison sentence of at least 30 years.

A surgery team at Brigham and Women's Hospital performed the facial transplant earlier this year, when Tarleton received the face of a Massachusetts woman who died of a stroke.

Tarleton's book is called "Overcome: Burned, Blinded, and Blessed," and talks about forgiveness.

The book signing will be early Tuesday afternoon at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
