Globe: At least 3 investor groups with local ties interested in buying newspaper

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) – The Boston Globe says at least three investor groups with local ties are interested in buying the cash-strapped newspaper.

The narrowed field of bidders includes members of the Taylor family that formerly owned the Globe, Boston Red Sox owner John Henry and Robert Loring, a Massachusetts native who owns the Tampa Tribune.

Sources say the competing bids range from $60 million to $80 million, which is a deal, considering the New York Times bought the Globe for $1.1 billion in 1993.
