Suspect sought in Duluth jewelry store burglaries

Posted: Updated:
DULUTH, Ga. -

Police hope surveillance footage will lead to a man suspected of burglarizing several stores in Duluth.

Authorities say the man has broken into four stores on Satellite Boulevard, including one on Monday.

Just before 3 a.m. on Monday, a man in a Polo and a ball cap, walked to J Jeweler's. He pulled a rock out of a bucket and used it to break through the glass door.

"We really need public help to find this guy. He's terrorizing the community," said the owner of the store, who asked not to be identified.

The owners believe the man is a professional thief. They say the video shows him waiting until a restaurant closed at 2 a.m., then waiting in the parking lot until the workers left at 2:30. That's when they say he cut power to the entire building, turned around this corner and broke into their store.

He disappears into darkness after going inside, but the owners said that he didn't get away with anything.

"Everything is in the case because the same guy had a break-in a month ago," said the owner.

In the first break-in, owners say he got away with about $4,000 worth of jewelry left in cases overnight.

Store owners say he got in the same way and was even wearing the same clothes.

Police believe they have evidence he broke into at least one other jeweler and tried to get into another.

"It is affecting our business, and we need public help to catch this guy," said the store owner.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the burglar's identity to contact police.
