TEWKSBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Reading man wanted in connection with a robbery at a Tewksbury gas station, as well as for alleged robberies in surrounding areas, was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to the Shell gas station located at 1975 Main St. in Tewksbury at about 12:30 a.m. Monday after learning an armed robbery had just occurred.
The clerk told police a heavy set male, approximately 5'10" inches tall and 300 pounds, had entered the store armed with a knife and demanded money. The suspect allegedly reached into the register and fled with approximately $180 cash.
From the surveillance video, detectives were able to determine that the suspect matched the description of another suspect wanted in connection with similar incidents in surrounding communities, including Billerica and Woburn.
The suspect is also wanted for an alleged robbery that occurred in Nashua, N.H.
Police issued an arrest warrant for 45-year-old Frank Pendergast. He is being charged with armed robbery and armed assault with intent to rob.
Pendergast was taken into custody in North Reading at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. He is expected to be arraigned in Lowell District Court Wednesday.
