Police say the driver of a vehicle is dead and a passenger was injured when the car they were in crashed on the Grand Central Parkway early Saturday morning.

According to police, a Lexus SUV was traveling westbound on the GCP by the Cross Island Expressway around 4:00 a.m. at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, struck a metal barrier causing it to go airborne and struck a tree.

EMS took the driver, 29-year-old Danny Singh of Queens, to Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger, 28-year-old Nancy Vega, was taken to North Shore Manhasset Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

Police later recovered a .25 caliber semiautomatic pistol from the SUV and arrested and charged Vega with Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
