DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Armed with megaphones and signs, those in attendance are hoping to persuade the federal government to file civil rights charges against George Zimmerman. The National Day of Action rally comes a week after a jury acquitted Zimmerman of murder charges in the young teen's death. Organizers say they are impressed with the showing in the D and that they hope it will make a difference.

"It's great to see this, said Rev. Charles Williams with the National Action Network. "It reminds us of the time we once stood up for voting rights, civil rights, segregated buses. It's nice to see it in Detroit"

Other Michigan rallies were held in Pontiac, Saginaw and Flint. They lead up to huge march in Washington DC set for August.
