AUBURN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A New Jersey woman was killed and a Leominster man was arrested in a wrong-way crash on the Mass. Pike Sunday.

Mass. State Police troopers from the Charlton barracks responded to reports of a wrong-way driver headed east on the westbound side of the Mass. Pike at about 4:35 a.m. Troopers from the Millbury and Holden barracks were told to close the highway east of the driver's location to stop other drivers from being endangered.

As troopers responded, a caller reported a crash involving multiple cars between exit 10 in Auburn and the Charlton barracks. One of the cars involved was on fire.

An unidentified 66-year-old woman from Toms River, N.J. was pronounced dead at the scene. An unidentified 33-year-old man from Leominster was arrested and transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester with non-life threatening injuries. At least one other person was also transported to the hospital.

There is no word on what charges the Leominster man could face in the fatal wreck. The westbound side of I-90 remained closed until just before 9 a.m.
