ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A tragic accident in Romulus. A 5-year-old boy is dead after his grandfather found him inside an unlocked car in the heat. Police say it appears the child wandered into the car while his grandparents were sleeping. It was about 86 degrees outside at the time.

It happened Saturday night.

"It's horrible. I couldn't imagine," said Elizabeth Savage who lives across the street. "He got out while his grandmother was sleeping."

It's not known how long the boy was inside the car before he was found. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. We don't know whether the grandparents will face any charges. Romulus police are investigating.
