STOUGHTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A pregnant woman has died after being hit by a car Sunday night in Stoughton.

Family members identify the victim as Joanne White.

White's mother says White was walking to her house along Lincoln Street with her son when she was hit. She says White told her son to run as the car approached so he would not be hit. White was 3 1/2 months pregnant.

White's son hid behind a nearby tree. The driver of the car, 46-year-old Karen Blau, of Sharon, hit the tree, but the boy was not injured.

When police arrived at the scene, they found White on the ground. Police and firefighters attempted life-saving aid before she was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Blau was arrested at the scene and charged with three counts of motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation.

The 46-year-old claims she was in distress over looking for her daughter who had been missing for two days and had a pending drug case scheduled for Monday. She says she lost control of her new car while trying to back out of the driveway.

Blau admitted to taking a Prozac pill and a drinking a glass of wine prior to driving. Investigators claim she had taken a Percocet.

Police say Blau was swerving while driving, had slurred speech, and failed a field sobriety test. They claim she had a blood alcohol content level of .04 when a portable breathalyzer was used at the scene. She registered a .06 once at the police station, investigators said.

Blau was held on $500,000 cash bail following her arraignment in Stoughton District Court Monday.
