BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Sources are telling FOX Undercover that investigators are looking into the possibility that alleged Whitey Bulger extortion victim Stephen "Stippo" Rakes was poisoned.
Rakes' body was found with no wallet last Wednesday afternoon around 1:30 in a wooded area in Lincoln.
His car was discovered seven miles away in Waltham, leading investigators to believe his body was dumped in Lincoln.
Rakes had last been seen publicly the day before leaving Whitey Bulger's trial at federal court in South Boston.
When his body was found, Rakes was wearing the same clothes from court.
Prosecutors originally planned to call Rakes to testify during the trial, but told him last week that he would not be taking the stand after all.
Rakes wanted to testify because he said Bulger and his crew forced him to sell his liquor store to them in the early 1980s and allegedly threatened to kill him if he didn't.
An autopsy on Rakes' body showed no signs of trauma.
Now investigators are waiting for toxicology results which should provide some definitive answers. Those results could be ready by next week.
