Cape baseball league official dies in fall

SANDWICH, Mass. (AP) — A Sandwich roofer who was also a deputy commissioner with the Cape Cod Baseball League has died after falling from a roof in town.

Fire department officials say they responded to a home in town late Thursday morning for reports of a fall. They estimated the fall at 35 to 40 feet.

Capt. Scott Ames says the man was taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable where he died.

League officials identified the victim as 61-year-old James McNally, the owner of a roofing and siding installer.

The death left the league in shock. League spokesman John Garner told the Cape Cod Times ( ) it was "a sad day for the Cape League family."

McNally was also a former umpire for the amateur league.
