Man with disability says he crawled across tarmac, sues Delta

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) – A man left without the use of his legs following a car crash is suing Delta Airlines claiming he was "forced to crawl off flights" because the airline made no attempt to accommodate his disability despite prior notification.

Baraka Kanaan filed the lawsuit Tuesday following the July 2012 incident which occurred when he was flying to Massachusetts from Hawaii, reports the Huffington Post.

Kanaan, who was injured during a car crash in 2000, says he informed Delta that he would need equipment help to get him off the plane; however, when the plane landed, there was no equipment and a flight attendant allegedly told him that they would not be able to get him off the plane.

As a result, Kanaan was forced to crawl across the tarmac ruining his best suit in the process. During that same trip, Kanaan was forced once again to get himself to his wheelchair after Delta failed for a second time to get the right equipment.

According to the Huffington Post, the lawsuit also alleges the airline offered him a piece of cardboard the second time around so he wouldn't ruin his clothes.

The airline also reportedly offered him a voucher and SkyMiles which Kanaan refused because he was unsure if he would have to endure the same humiliating experience in the future.
