Report: Boston police very close to making arrest in Lord's murder

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – There is a report that Boston police are very close to making an arrest in the brutal murder of Amy Lord, and they're still investigating whether Lord's murder is connected to two other assaults on South Boston women in the same timeframe.

According to The Boston Globe, police say they're honing in on who kidnapped and stabbed Lord to death. Top law enforcement officials say they will discuss the investigation at a community meeting Monday night in Southie. The forum on public safety will happen 7 p.m. at the Tynan School cafeteria. Police and elected officials will be available to answer questions from the public.

Meanwhile, a wake for the 24-year-old Bentley University graduate will take place between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday in Springfield. Tuesday, her family will hold a private funeral in her hometown of Wilbraham.

Lord was abducted from her apartment on Tuesday and forced to take money out of several ATMs. She was then stabbed to death and left at the Stony Brook Reservation in Hyde Park.

Boston police have not named an official suspect in Lord's killing, but they have called 28-year-old Edwin Alemany "a person of interest."

Alemany is in custody, charged with committing two other attacks in South Boston. Both occurred within 24 hours of Lord's abduction.

Police Commissioner Ed Davis says his department is waiting forDNA test results before they take the next step in this investigation.

On Friday, Davis said that Alemany should have been arrested back in 2012 after his wallet and ID were allegedly found near an assault victim who had been strangled.

An internal review of that case is now being conducted.
